Luton Town U10 Girls v Arsenal 15/02/08 PDF Print E-mail

As well as playing for Bedford Town Girls, our middle daugther is currently also playing as goalkeeper for the u10 girls squad at Luton Town Football Club.

This week saw them attend a residential camp at Shuttleworth College in Bedfordshire together with the U12's, u14's, and u16's, which cullminated into playing matches against Arsenal's girl squad's.

Luton u10 girls v Arsenal

After a very good game the u10's final score finished with a 4-1 win to Arsenal, however the score-line didn't reflect the play.

The match consisted of 4 x 15mins quarters, and after the first quarter the score was 0-0.  The first goal came after a great piece of individual skill by the Arsenal number 9 that was the start of a well worked goal. They had been testing our goalie a few times and it came as no surprise. The second goal was a " soft " goal to conceed coming from a "roll-out " from our keeper to a defender, which got intercepted and ended up in the back of our net.

At 2-0 down it could easily have been the start of an on-slaught but the Luton girls kept their heads up and kept batterling. We had a couple of near misses and the Arsenal keeper made a couple of good saves to deny us our first goal. The third goal went in and this saw us 3-0 down. Still the girls didn't crumble, and after a great through ball to our forward, saw her one-on-one with the keeper. She kept a cool head and slotted the ball home, 3-1.

A final goal put Arsenal at 4-1 but as i said before, this doesn't reflect the game. All the girls done really well and should be proud of themselves.

Hopefully after this performance they will take some extra confidence into the remaining games of the season.

Just to round off a good game, the Arsenal side awarded their "Girl Of The Game" to my daughter, the goalie  (she happens to be an Arsenal supporter, but I'm sure that didn't have anything to do with it !!! ).

Well done to all the girls, and to their coaches Trevor and  Julie. Thanks also to Stuart for organising the residential camp.

The Luton u10 girls were :

Jess, Hanna, Erin, Katie M, Charlie, Shannon, Katie C, Alisa, Kiara, Amber, Holly, Tysie, and Morgan.
